Volkswagen’s fun theory

4 10 2009

Here’s a really cool campaign for VW in sweden.

Their “fun theory”: rolighesteorin, implies we could adopt a more responsible behavior (concerning physical activity and environment) simply by adding some fun into daily activities. the escalator film shows 66% more people chose the stairs when they were making music.

The trashcans say “deepest trashcans in the world”.

really cool (French) campaign for Allianz…

TV and web teaser videos started on september 13th, announcing the campaign.

tells the story of Claude’s personality traits, embodied in various characters, acting out his doubts concerning his retirement plan or his mixed feelings, hanging on the “hold” tune of his current insurance’s hotline (sounds complicated, it’s not). check it out here

relays on every media and an excellent execution from the guys over at DDB

Renault ZE lineup

16 09 2009

One of the Frankfurt motor show’s big happenings is the unveiling of Renault Z.E., a full range of electric vehicles by the French auto maker.

01_fluence-501_twizy-701_kangoo-601_zoe-2

While the American giants are barely out of the ground (thanks to the government’s measures), Renault is undeniably moving forward, and as they say : though they may not be the first to mention the electric car, in 900 and some days, they’ll be the first to provide a whole range of them accessible to « everyone » for the price of a regular car (mainly thanks to a government measure set to refund 5000 euros for every purchase of an electric car).

But sticking to the blog’s topic. First, the brand’s new signature : following Citroen’s rejuvenating strategy of brand and logo earlier this year, Renault looks to establish its “first-mover” position on the electric vehicle market with “drive the change”, by moving first, almost three years before the actual launch, and backing the campaign with a coherent and legitimate, future-driven, « green /blue » speech. However, i do think the last minute of the spot would’ve been enough on its own, a tad too much demagogy in the first part. Also, i would’ve recommended an accompanying logo renewal…

(updated 2:37 pm) apparently, this is the new logo

Second, the web device (by Digitas France) :

A well-designed, easy to use, ergonomic website with rich and informative content, with a clear wish to concretize the electric car in the minds of consumers, notably in the presentation video, by inserting the cars into contemporary, familiar surroundings. The tone of voice is also reassuring to skeptics through trivializing all novelties surrounding the usage of the car and providing exhaustive information concerning the associated infrastructure.

The associated blog is currently covering the happenings of the motor show and serves as the main Platform of community management, linked to a very reactive twitter account Renault ZE, seemingly tweeting right from Francfort (i got a video answer to my question within a few hours), an active Facebook fan page as well as a Youtube channel.

More info as they come…

Want to know if there’s been an outbreak of swine flu in the neighborhood? There’s an app for that.

Outbreaks Near Me is a location-aware application for the iPhone, basically lets you know in real time if a new case of swine flu has been identified anywhere near you. better (worse?) yet, users can even enter their own data based on their observations or local information.

Can you picture the suburbian housewife making it her daily task?

“It’s about empowering citizens in the cause of public health to both provide them with information and allow them to contribute information to share with others” says the app developer

I mean, the messed-up role the media are playing in this has been put forth too many times for me to repeat it. But, user-generated pandemic evolution information? let’s try and figure out the tiny worldwide niche of most interested users: uh, hypochondriacs??? oh, that should provide some nice, reliable information.

Pizza Hut innovates on Iphone

27 08 2009

I stumbled upon this video of the new Pizza Hut Iphone app. found it really worth posting.

Remembering an analysis of conditions of success of an Iphone app i had found in an article (which, for the life of me, i can’t find back).

Basically, a simplistic analysis argued that for an app to be successful relative to time management of users, it had to: either save the user time by facilitating daily chores, or constitute a total waste of time.(the two kinds obviously being used in very different circumstances)

I believe Pizza Hut has done a great job combining the two. By making the “wasting time” functionalities optional, it gives a hungry user the choice of ordering his pizza in the fastest, most efficient, most mobile way yet, and the not-so-hungry user the chance to spend some time surfing across the extras, which coincidentally use almost every innovative functionality of the Iphone, from shaking, to zooming, to tilting…

I guess we’ll hopefully start seeing more and more well-thought branded apps

Radiohead for the people

17 08 2009

radiohead-grammy-awards

Early 2008, at the expense of a deal break between them and EMI, their production company for 16 years, Radiohead hustled the established codes of the music industry by launching “in rainbows”, their latest album, exclusively online, at a price to be determined by each consumer (which meant zero was actually an option).

This turned out to be a master move, as “In rainbows” is today the single top selling album of Radiohead’s discography, selling more than 3 million worldwide.  (Other stats include:

• The physical CD has sold 1.75 million to date.
• 100,000 boxsets have been sold via W.A.S.T.E.
• Nearing 17 million plays on last.fm
• 1.2 million fans saw the tour

• The band made more money with this album than with the previous “hail to the thief”)

Banking on this recent success, the band is taking it to a new level, further irritating majors of the industry by launching new, free tracks to download, one at a time.

You can Download “These are my twisted words” on W.A.S.T.E. for free

The beginning of a revolution in the music industry? i sure like to think so…

Signal’s new toothpaste whitens your teeth on FaceBook

14 08 2009

A pretty creative idea by Duke, and one of the few social media operations actually worth posting.

You’re all familiar with the “red eye removal” option on most recent cameras. Signal launches the “teeth-whitening” application on Facebook to promote their new “white now” toothpaste.

It’s pretty basic, but fun and rather impacting.

Here’s the lovely Cybele with even lovelier teeth  :) . try it out here: http://apps.facebook.com/whitenow

Johnnie Walker is still walking

This is brilliant work by BBH London for Johnnie Walker and his “Keep Walking”.

A Scottish actor telling the story of the man, the brand and the slogan while keeping on walking.

Storytelling at its paroxysm.

Hello people,

After a month break in sunny Beirut, i’m back online.

Here’s a pretty creative way to sell sex toys (on TV?) without offending young and sensitive viewers: Sara’s secret  :)
